The crisp Autum weather that set in so suddenly after such a warm beginning to fall made me want to paint something baked, something sweet.. So, I went for a quick walk and finally got to check out the new neighborhood coffee/cafe a couple blocks from my studio, on the edge of Fishtown in Philly.

Flow State Coffee Bar, is more than just a coffee house. They have a full bakery in the back, which you can look in and watch the progress of the talented chef through big spotless windows. Apparently all their products are house-made: gelato, pastries and breads, caramels and flan even! I chose this cute muffin because it was looking at me through the clear display case, like an orphaned puppy.

After returning back to the studio with my new model, a quick glance at their instagram feed provided all the validation that this was indeed the right choice as my eye caught site of a post about these very muffins:

"Fresh out of the oven - #Pumpkinbread #muffins that actually taste like #pumpkin. In case you've been brainwashed by corporate bullshit, pumpkin is not a spice."

Amen to that.
