Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes

oil on wood, 11x14"

Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes, original artwork by Mike Geno

From the Foodie series.

Commissions are always somewhat personal and this one is even more special to me. This painting was arranged by the granddaughters of the late Phillip J. Baur Jr, the former chairman and CEO of Tasty Baking Co., and also the man responsible for the turnaround and success of the company his father cofounded. I am beyond honored to paint this iconic food nostalgia for part of the Tastykake family.

I have already previously painted, out of pure love, some of my favorite local Philadelphia food items: Krimpets, made by the Tastykake Co. So, I was thrilled at the option to paint another favorite that I grew up on; I admit I ate enough peanut butter Kandy Kakes to show up in my DNA. I bought extra just so I could get the right "bite" of a model. This is a professional burden I am willing to endure.
