Italian Hoagie

oil on wood, 9x12"

Italian Hoagie, original artwork by Mike Geno

From the Foodie series.

This delicious Philadelphia staple, made with an assortment of Italian cold cuts, provolone, lettuce, tomato, peppers, onions, oregano and oil and vinegar dressing on a freshly made long roll. This is a HOAGIE, to me.

I stopped on my way to the studio to pick up this for lunch. I ordered a large cut in half. When I got to the studio and unwrapped it, I decided right then that I had to eat half right away. It was so delicious, I changed my plans and switched the 2nd half to be my painting subject. I love painting local food, and Dan's Meats in Fishtown is an old school gem. The deli is old, it's worn, and some of the shelves are not fully stocked. However, the older couple working in there are super friendly they sure make a hell of a hoagie!
