Rocket's Robiola

oil on wood, 8x10"

Rocket's Robiola, original artwork by Mike Geno

From the Cheese Portraits series.

This ash-dusted, wrinkly rinded cheese is another beautiful Robiola from the good people at Boxcarr Handmade Cheese, in North Carolina. It's named after one of their most beautiful and powerful goats, "momma rocket".

Brother and sister, Austin and Sam, both made seperate stops at my studio with generous gifts of their incredible cheeses! I am a HUGE fan of Rosie's Robiola, and this ash-dusted version is just as delicious. I had it for a couple months, since it was a bit young when Austin dropped it off. I was really in the mood for a soft, gooey and oozy model and I had fear this one was waiting too long in my studio refrigerator. It turned out perfect and incredible as a lunch and model - even if it did ooze out as I painted it and had to work quite quickly. The benefit is I got to eat it sooner!
