Ten Eyck

oil on wood, 16x20"

Ten Eyck, original artwork by Mike Geno

From the Cheese Portraits series.

This cheese portrait is another result of the large gift of cheeses sent to me from Veronica Pedraza at Meadowood Farms in Cazenovia, New York. I could not pass up the chance to paint Ten Eyck, which is a sheep's milk, Spanish-styled firm cheese with a striking gray-brown rind that was the challenge my eye was most attracted to. Painting this arcing ridged rind I had thoughts of zen rock gardens and love how it contrasts the Ivory cheese paste and the luminous glow of the standing wedge.
This double-portrait cheese painting is a bit larger than most of my cheese portraits which I felt was necessary to capture the details of the cheese.
